Belagavi: A 64-year-old person from Donewadi village in Nippani taluk died due to Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) at a government hospital at Kolhapur on Saturday. It is the first GBS related death in the district.
The deceased has been identified as Balagouda Patil resident of Donewadi in Nippani.
District Health Officer Dr I P Gadadi told DH that Patil had been suffering from some health problems and as advised by his relatives from Kolhapur he had availed treatment from a private hospital and was later referred to government hospital wherein he died due to GBS. Donewadi village has close proximity to Maharashtra.
"Donewadi village comes under Mankapur Primary Health Centre, but Patil did not avail any treatment there and as per the information received by us, he died due to GBS, " the doctor said. "We do not have more details about the case," he added.
