Mumbai: A team of Bengaluru police has reached Pune to take the custody of Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, who attempted to end his life, to escape from the murder of his wife, Gauri Anil Sambrekar.

The couple, who hailed from Maharashtra, had been married for around three years.

According to reports Rakesh left Bengaluru for Mumbai on Tuesday after killing Gauri (32) in a fit of rage following arguments over financial distress.

On Thursday, he also called his landlord and confessed to the murder.

En route, Rakesh had consumed pesticides, possibly to end his life, after which he fell unconscious.

Rakesh was shifted to Sassoon General Hospital in Pune where he is undergoing treatment under strict arrangements.

The couple from Satara had recently shifted to Bengaluru and were staying in a rented accommodation.

Gauri, who had a background in mass media and communication, was unemployed and searching for a job while Rakesh was a project manager in a private company.

Meanwhile, Dr Eknath Pawar, Dean, B J Government Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, said that Rakesh was under treatment.

"According to the information provided by the patient, he consumed phenyl and pesticide,” Dr Pawar said.

The body of Gauri was found stuffed in a suitcase in Doddakannelli in Hulimavu area of Bengaluru.
