Mumbai:  In the run up to the civic bodies polls in Maharashtra, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented a whopping  Rs 74,427 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26 focussing extensively on infrastructure development, enhancing health network, beefing up storm water drains, water supply projects  and greening initiatives.

This is the highest outlay for the BMC, which is considered the richest civic body of India. 

BMC’s Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani unveiled the Budget Estimates of 2025-26 at the civic body’s headquarters. 

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has unveiled its budget for the financial year 2025-26, with a total outlay of Rs 74,427.41 crore, reflecting a significant increase of Rs 14,473 crore from the previous year. 

The Budget Estimates of 2024-25 were proposed at Rs 35,749.03 crore which were revised to Rs 40,693.85 crore - a rise by 13.83 per cent, or Rs 4944.82 crore. 

The total BMC reserves stand at Rs 81,744.42 crore. 

Total pending dues from the offices of various departments of the Maharashtra Government under jurisdiction of BMC on account of grant-in-aid, property tax, etc are amounting to Rs 9,750.23 crore as on December 31, 2024. This includes an amount of Rs 6,581.14 crore on account of grant-in-aid from the Education Department of the State Government.
