Mumbai: In a mega initiative, a combined geology and archaeology exhibition will be held in Mumbai, where a vast array of exhibits, including rocks, minerals, fossils, sculptures, and weapons, will be on display.
The three-day exhibition, titled INSTUCENfest, is scheduled from 16-18 May 2025 at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul (PTKS) at Vile Parle.
“The exhibition will display a vast array of rocks, minerals and fossils, coins, stone tools, maps, and sculptures. It will also have demonstrations and workshops on stone-tool making, ancient script writing, and some lectures on related topics,” said Dr Mugdha D Karnik, Managing Trustee, INSTUCEN Trust, Mumbai.
There would be live demonstrations, lectures and other participatory activities, quizzes to make the event more attractive and bring complex subjects like geology and archaeology closer to the common people and help them have a basic understanding.
For 15 years now, INSTUCEN Trust has been organising various educational lecture courses, exhibitions and other archaeology-related activities. Rocks, mineral, and fossils exhibitions were one of them, done in collaboration with the University of Mumbai.
“We are back again with this exhibition in the city of Mumbai. The exhibition is known to draw huge crowds of young students as well as grown up yet curious people. The stunning rocks and fossils collection, coins collection, weapons, sculptures, and antique maps can be viewed with the help of guides and experts in the field,” said Dr Karnik.
Veteran archaeologist and historian Dr A P Jamkhedkar and Arawind Prabhu of PTKS will inaugurate the exhibition.
