Mumbai: Accusing Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis of being a “compulsive liar”, state Congress President Harshavardhan Sapkal said that the Chief Minister is sitting with all those against whom he had made allegations over the years.
“Fadnavis is a compulsive liar…he once said he wouldn’t marry unless Vidarbha got statehood. He said he’d never ally with Ajit Pawar and had declared Chhagan Bhujbal should be in jail. He accused Narayan Rane of massive corruption. Yet today, he sits beside all of them - Pawar, Bhujbal, and Rane,” Sapkal said.
“Fadnavis is an expert in handing out clean chits to corrupt ministers, and now he’s given one to the Election Commission as well, raising further suspicion. If there’s nothing fishy, why does the whole dish stink?” Sapkal questioned hours after Fadnavis wrote an article rebutting charges levelled by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
“Fadnavis and the BJP alliance are the ones who directly benefited from the vote manipulation - they are the accused, enjoying the spoils of power - and yet they are offering the defense. Stop acting like a judicial icon; your governance resembles that of a corrupt police chief. His responses are weak, superficial, and fail to address the actual questions,” said Sapkal.
“Every issue Rahul Gandhi has raised over the years has proven to be correct with time. He warned of the China threat, and now the dragon is encroaching on India. He warned that demonetisation would devastate the economy and lower GDP - and it did. He alerted the nation to the dangers of Covid-19 when the BJP government ignored it, and the country paid a heavy price."
"Today, questions are being raised over the transparency and integrity of the Election Commission’s conduct. These are questions of democratic survival, and it is the Commission’s duty to answer them. Instead, it remains silent, denies CCTV footage, and quietly changes the rules,” Sapkal said.
“Fadnavis spoke about Election Commissioner appointments but conveniently forgot that T N Seshan - appointed during the Congress era - redefined what the Model Code of Conduct truly means. But in Modi’s BJP era, the Chief Justice was removed from the selection panel and replaced with a Union Minister. Fadnavis’ article is mere damage control, probably written at the behest of his bosses in Delhi. His article doesn’t deserve a written rebuttal - it can be answered with a mere couplet,” Sapkal quipped.
