No casualties were reported.

The Mumbai fire brigade doused the fire within minutes.

Meanwhile, Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, who is in the complex, said that people are safe. “Everybody is safe. The scanning machine caught fire. Nothing is connected to the establishment. There was a short-circuit in the scanning machine due to an issue. Everything is under control,” he said.

The incident unfolded while MLAs were present - and they were leaving for lunch after a scheduled event.

Visuals of smoke emerging from the building spread quickly on social media, sparking public concern.

The exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.
