Mumbai: In an unusual way to protest, NCP (SP)’s Rohini Khadse has urged President Droupadi Murmu to grant immunity to women from punishment against "one murder” as they want to kill the “oppressive mentality” and “rapist mindset”.
Rohini, the women’s wing President of Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), is daughter of NCP (SP) MLC, former minister and ex-Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Eknath Khadse and sister-in-law of Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs and BJP MP Raksha Khadse.
Rohini’s statement coincides with the International Women’s Day festivities and in the backdrop of crimes against women in Maharashtra, which also include a molestation incident involving her niece.
“We, on behalf of all women, are demanding immunity (from punishment) to commit one murder,” Khadse said in the letter.
India was the most unsafe country for women as crimes, including kidnapping and domestic violence, were happening against them, she said in the letter.
“We want to kill the oppressive mentality, the rapist tendency, the inefficiency of law and order… We hope our demand will be granted after giving it serious thought,” Khadse added.
