The Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has achieved another milestone with the signing of a contract for the major refit of lightship MV Indira Point.

Under the contract, the Kolkata-based GRSE, a defence PSU undertaking, will carry out dry dock and afloat repairs, including maintenance of the vessel’s hull, propulsion, onboard systems, and critical machinery.

The refit is scheduled to be completed within 300 days.

MV Indira Point plays a crucial role in maintaining lighthouses and navigational aids along India’s coastline, thereby ensuring maritime safety and facilitating smooth trade and commerce.

The lightship serves as a floating beacon at the southernmost tip of India, Indira Point, and is essential to maritime operations in the region.

The agreement was formalised between Cdr Shantanu Bose (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE, and N Muruganandam, Director General, Lighthouses and Lightships, according to a press statement.
