Mumbai: The Kaanta Laga girl, Shefali Jariwala, who was a popular actor and Bigg Boss contestant, dancer, singer and model, passed away in Mumbai on Friday night.
She was 42.
She is survived by husband Parag Tyagi, an actor.
According to initial reports, the actor suffered a suspected cardiac arrest late on Friday night and was rushed to the Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital at Andheri, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Tyagi has requested privacy.
"Her body was found at her residence in Andheri. The police received the information at 0100 hrs. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The cause of her death is not yet clear," police officials stated.
The hospital has not yet formally commented on the cause of death.
The body has been sent to Dr R N Cooper Municipal General Hospital at Vile Parle for post-mortem.
On Saturday morning, a team of Mumbai Police officials visited the hospital and her residence.
Forensic team was summoned to gather details for analysis.
The hospital has not made any official comments yet on her death.
An official statement is awaited from the side of the family.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association, however, confirmed her death because of a heart attack. Shefali Jariwala is no longer with us. Gone too soon at just 42 due to a sudden heart attack. It’s hard to believe she’s gone. May her soul rest in peace, and may God give strength to her family during this heartbreaking time,” the AICWE said in a post on X.
Shefali became famous for appearing in a song in the 2002 video album Kaanta Laga.
She was a participant of TV shows like Boogie Woogie, Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7.
Shefali Jariwala was married to musician Harmeet Singh from Meet Brothers fame, in 2004. However, they separated in 2009.
Later, she married actor Parag Tyagi in 2015.
Born on December 15, 1982, she had a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the prestigious Sardar Patel Engineering College in Gujarat.
Once in an interview, she claimed issues involving epileptic seizures, anxiety and depression. However, she overcame it with an exercise regimen.
In September 2024, Shefali shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter) remembering Sidharth Shukla on his third death anniversary. She posted a throwback photo in which she can be seen hugging him, captioned: “Thinking of you today mere dost”, with a red heart emoji. Sidharth, who was also a co-contestant on Bigg Boss 13 alongside Shefali, had passed away on September 2, 2021, due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 40.
