Mumbai: As the Indian armed forces pounded ordnance on the terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, there was some sense of relief and closure for the Maharashtra-based survivors who had lost their family members in the ghastly terror attack on tourists in the popular hill station of Pahalgam in Kashmir valley.
Maharashtra has suffered the biggest casualty with six deaths and injuries to five people.
The victims from Maharashtra are Atul Mone, Hemant Joshi and Sanjay Lele, who hail from Dombivli in Thane district, Dilip Desale, a resident of New Panvel in the Raigad district and Santosh Jagdale and Kaustubh Ganbote, both from Pune.
The family members of the victims have hailed Operation Sindoor.
"It's a befitting reply to how the terrorists erased the vermilion of our daughters...On hearing the name of this operation, I got tears in my eyes. I sincerely thank the government,” said Pragati Jagdale, wife of Santosh.
“The strikes were appropriate…when I went there, I had sindoor…but when I came back it was not there...the terrorists have wiped it,” she said and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I cried a lot on hearing the name of the operation. It is a real tribute and justice to those who were killed by terrorists," says Asavari Jagdale, daughter of Santosh. “This is a tribute to those who were killed…my father was among them,” she said, adding 'this is a start and it must continue till terrorism ends'.
"I am satisfied, my late father and uncles would now be at peace…a response was necessary. My only point is that this should not be a one-time strike. There should be continuous attacks so that they finally understand the seriousness,” said Harshal Lele, who lost his father Sanjay Land two uncles Atul and Hemant in the terror attack.
“I was awake last night…I don’t know why?…I was scrolling the mobile…may be that was a sign for me that something will happen,” he said, adding that a friend of his messaged and asked him to switch on the TV. “Then I came to know,” he added.
“I am happy with the way Operation Sindoor was carried out…nine locations were hit…it is our expectation that more such actions should be taken,” he said.
“I will say it is good that India took revenge,” said Subodh Patil, a resident of Navi Mumbai, who was injured in the attack. “Operation Sindoor is the correct action…how we must ensure that such attacks by terrorists do not happen again,” he added, pointing out that terrorism must end.
