Mumbai: The Maharashtra govt has set up a Special Investigation Team to investigate into the alleged fraudulent birth certificates issued to Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, who have intruded into the state after sneaking into the Indian borders.
Senior BJP leader Dr Kirit Somaiya, a former MP, has written to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking a thorough probe into the alleged racket.
A notice has been sent to all the Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors regarding this, according to an X post by Somaiya, who has been flagging the issue for years now.
“Bangladeshi Rohingyas Birth Certificate Scam…I thank CM Devendra Fadnavis for taking cognizance of my complaint and issuing directives to Collectors to stop the process to issue birth certificates,” he said.
