The victim works as an IT professional in Pune.

This comes just months after the shocking Swargate and Bopdev Ghat rape cases and just a few days after a minor was raped on Solapur Highway in the Pune district.

The Pune police have launched a massive manhunt to track down the accused.

The incident took place at around 1930 hrs.

The victim was alone in her apartment as her brother had gone out of the town.

The accused came to her house posing as a delivery agent possessing a bank-related document and gained entry. The suspect told the victim to get a pen for signing the documents. As soon as she turned her back to him, he came inside the house, latched the door and forced himself on her.

The accused also clicked a selfie on the victim's phone. He left a message on her phone, warning her not to inform anyone about the crime as he had taken her private pictures and would share them on social media, and also mentioned - “I will come again”.

The police said their preliminary probe suggests the woman was rendered unconscious after the man allegedly sprayed some substance on her.

The Maharashtra government assured that the accused would be punished. "We have recovered some CCTV footage. Work is being done to recover the CCTV footage from outside the society. The guilty person will be caught soon and punished,” Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said.

“A total of 10 teams, five of the crime branch and five zonal teams, are working on the case. Forensic experts were called on the spot for investigations. A selfie was found on the woman's phone. We are analysing it,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde.
