Ten MLCs, both from the opposition as well as treasury benches, asked a question on whether 12,438 children have died in the state from April 2024 to February 2025. They also asked whether Kolhapur district reported deaths of 1,736 children, including 11 newborns.

In a written reply to the question, Abitkar responded in the affirmative.

However, there was no age break up or the causes of death.

Replying to another question, Abitkar said 117 trauma care units have been approved in government hospitals along highways, of which 78 are operational.

Work is on to complete 39 trauma care units, he said.
