Mumbai: A monorail got stuck midway on the tracks near Wadala due to a technical snag amid inclement weather on Monday. Seventeen passengers were safely evacuated.
The Mumbai Monorail runs between Chembur and Wadala Depot and Wadala Depot to Jacob Circle involving 17 stations. It is the only Monorail in India and among the very few such services in the world.
The incident occurred around 7.16 am between the Antop Hill and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar monorail stations in Wadala.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Fire Brigade and Mumbai Police swung into action as the information about the snag was reported in the control room.
The passengers were rescued and brought to the station.
“Seventeen evacuated after a technical glitch happened in the monorail at Wadala. Passengers were evacuated at 7:45 am,” MMRDA officials said.
“Monorail services were restored by 8.50 am,” BMC officials said, adding that all the commuters are safe.
In a similar incident on August 19, a monorail train near Mysore Colony station in Mumbai broke down due to a power supply failure, prompting a major rescue effort to evacuate over 500 to 600 passengers stranded in two trains.
