The delegation was led by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshavardhan Sapkal, Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and submitted a four-page memorandum and a eight-page fact-finding committee report, which was headed by former MPCC President and Congress party’s Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakre.

The delegation also expressed concern over the statements being made by BJP leader and state’s Ports and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane.

The riot took place hours after Right-wing organisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal gave a call to raze Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s grave in Khuldabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district which was followed by rumour mongering. More than 100 persons including Fahim Khan, the mastermind has been arrested. One person, who sustained serious wounds during the riots, had succumbed to injuries.

“The government has completely failed to maintain law and order , the behaviour of the Chief Minister and ministers is unconstitutional, the state government should be dismissed immediately,” demanded Sapkal, adding: “The MahaYuti government is deliberately spreading the poison of religious fanaticism to create religious divisions.”

“Rane has consistently made controversial statements with the aim of creating a rift between the two religions for political gain. Despite this, the Chief Minister has worked to support him, which means that it is the state government's policy to disrupt social harmony and peace in the state. Aurangzeb's tomb is a structure protected by the Central Government's Archaeological Survey of India,” he said.

“In Nagpur city, people of both religions participate enthusiastically in Ram Navami and Tajuddin Baba's Urusa. Nagpur city has set an example by maintaining social harmony till date , it is very worrying and condemnable that violence should occur on religious issues in this city,” the state Congress chief said.
