Banners carrying photographs of Walmik Karad, the prime accused in the sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case, surfaced in Beed to greet a local office-bearer of the ruling NCP on his birthday. The banners were, however, removed later on the instructions of police, reported PTI.
According to the reports, the local party workers put up the banner to greet Bappasaheb Ghuge, a district office-bearer of the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), on his birthday on June 7.
Walmik Karad, a close aide of Dhananjay Munde, Karad has been named as the mastermind in the sensational murder of Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and running an extortion racket including a Rs two crore bid from the Avaada Group, a prominent renewable energy company.
Karad faces more than a dozen criminal cases in Beed district, including cases of attempted murder, extortion, cheating, forgery, rioting, unlawful assembly, among others.
