Mumbai: The Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) on Friday alleged that the BJP workers created ruckus in the Vidhan Bhavan complex to divert attention from the Maharashtra honeytrap episode which ensnared a staggering number of 70 to 75 senior government officials, including bureaucrats, law enforcement officers and politicians.

“It's being said that around 70 to 75 officials of the government and some current and former senior leaders and ministers are allegedly involved in the recent honey trap case in Maharashtra. While the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi raised this issue in the legislature and sought a response from the government, BJP workers deliberately resorted to physical altercations in the premises of the legislature yesterday,” alleged NCP (SP) chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase.

He said that the government is fully aware of the seriousness of the honeytrap matter, but the ruling party is trying to ensure that the truth behind the incident never comes out.

It may be recalled that in an unprecedented incident, supporters of NCP (SP) MLA Dr Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar clashed in the Vidhan Bhavan complex on Thursday.

Tapase further alleged that by resorting to violence in the legislature, the BJP has tarnished the progressive image and the rich parliamentary tradition of Maharashtra.

He also accused BJP office bearers of disrespecting democracy by engaging in such acts within the legislative premises.
