Mumbai: Pune-based young mountaineer Nikunj Shah successfully scaled Mt Lobuche (6,119 m) in the Nepal Himalayas on May 1, 2025. This summit marks another strong step towards his larger dream — to scale Mt. Everest in the summer of 2026.
Earlier, in 2024, Nikunj had also successfully climbed Mt Thelu (6,002 m) in the Garhwal Himalayas, showcasing his steady progress in high-altitude mountaineering.
Nikunj began his mountaineering journey at the age of 10 as part of the first batch of the Avhaan Nirman Udaan (ANU) program by Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM). Under the mentorship of veteran mountaineer Umesh Zirpe, he nurtured a deep passion for the mountains.
He is currently employed with Giripremi Adventure Foundation, actively working to promote mountaineering and adventure sports among the youth.
His recent achievement on Mt Lobuche reflects his dedication, perseverance, and growing expertise in the field. Giripremi and the entire GGIM family extend heartfelt congratulations to Nikunj and wish him success for his upcoming Mt. Everest expedition in 2026.
