The three victims are Atul Mone (43), Hemant Joshi (45) and Sanjay Lele (50).

The trio’s friends and kin urged the Centre to take the “strictest possible action” against those responsible for the attack. “What has happened is tragic. Every citizen has the right to travel, settle and own land anywhere in India without fear of violence,” said Praveen Raul, a friend of Sanjay.

“The terrorists targeted Hindu tourists. I appeal to the government to ensure the strictest possible punishment,” said Rajshree, Atul's sister-in-law.

Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde said a party team is stationed in Srinagar to assist stranded tourists from Maharashtra.
