Mumbai: Pakistan is known to conduct proxy wars as it cannot win wars against India, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said pointing out that in such circumstances the financial capital - Mumbai remains vulnerable.

Fadnavis' statement came in the wake of the India-Pakistan tensions amid Operation Sindoor launched after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on tourists and the subsequent ceasefire.

In the wake of the developments, Fadnavis, who is also the state Home Minister, chaired the civil-military coordination meeting at Varsha, his official residence at Malabar Hill in Mumbai.

Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar were also present.

“We have held an important meeting…earlier too in view of the war-like situation we have held a meeting of various departments...today we have held a meeting with Indian armed forces…we have discussed the experience, concerns,” he said.

Fadnavis pointed out that the Indian armed forces gave a body blow to Pakistan by targeting terrorist camps and bases of armed forces.

“Pakistan is known to conduct proxy wars as it cannot win direct war against us…in wake of such a history, and Mumbai as a financial capital being vulnerable, we are taking various measures,” the CM said.

Maharashtra’s Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Lieutenant General Pawan Chadha, General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa Area, Rear Admiral Anil Jaggi, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area, Air Vice Marshal Rajat Mohan, Maritime Air Operations were present.

Lt Gen Chadha also presented a special commemorative memento to the CM symbolising the valour, sacrifice and strategic acumen of the Indian Army and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
