Mumbai: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi would visit Parbhani on Monday and meet the family members of Somnath Suryawanshi, a law-student, who died in judicial custody after the violence in the Marathwada town.
Gandhi will be accompanied by state Congress President Nana Patole and senior leaders including MLA Vijay Wadettiwar.
Gandhi will arrive by a special flight from New Delhi to Nanded and drive down to Parbhani. After visiting the family of Suryawanshi, he will drive back to Nanded and fly to the national capital.
On 10 December, large-scale violence, arson, stone-pelting, vandalisation of public and private property was reported from the Parbhani town of Marathwada region of Maharashtra during a bandh called to protest the vandalism of replica of Constitution placed in a glass box near a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
One of the accused, Somnath Suryawanshi, who was arrested in case of the violence, died in the judicial custody on 15 December. Suryawanhi hailed from the Wadar community.
