A staff working at renowned music director Pritam Chakraborty's office in Mumbai allegedly stole cash worth Rs 40 lakh, prompting the Bollywood bigwig to file a complaint at the Malad police station.
Meanwhile, cops have identified 32-year-old Ashish Sayal as the accused and are attempting to track him down. The theft was reported by the composer's manager, as per a News18 report.
As per the publication, the robbery took place on February 4 around 2 pm at Pritam Chakraborty’s music studio, Unimus Record Pvt. Ltd, which is located in Goregaon.
Pritam Chakraborty's manager Vineet Chedda received a bag containing Rs 40 lakh cash from a production house representative on the day of the incident. He allegedly kept the case in the trolley bag and went to Pritam's house in the same building. At the time of the incident, Sayal, Ahmed Khan, and Kamal Disha were reportedly present at the site.
After returning, he saw that the trolley bag with the cash had disappeared. Upon inquiry, he was told that Sayal was delivering the bag to Pritam Chakraborty’s residence. When he attempted to contact the suspect, the latter's phone was switched off.
Chedda immediately informed the composer who asked him to file a complaint in the matter.
“On the music composer’s advice, he approached the police station and lodged a complaint. A case of theft has been registered, and we are trying to trace the suspect. We are reaching out to his relatives and also working on leads through his mobile phone’s call data record," the publication quoted an officer as saying.
The police are also reportedly trying to ascertain if the composer had asked money from anyone to understand the motive behind the crime.
The composer is best known for his work in Barfi!, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
