Mumbai: Amid conspiracy theories, contradictory reports and widespread criticism vis-a-vis the investigations into the attack on Saif Ali Khan, the Mumbai police on Tuesday asserted that Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, the Bangladeshi national, arrested for the knife attack on the Bollywood actor, is the “correct accused”.

However, the report of the fingerprint examination at the Satguru Sharan, duplex apartment where Khan stayed with his family, is awaited.

“We have gathered ample oral, physical and technical evidence,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Paramjeet Singh Dahiya.

“The fingerprint report is awaited,” he added.

“Whenever an accused  is arrested, multiple pieces of evidence are collected...whether it is face recognition, fingerprint or oral statement, technical evidence and so on...he is the correct accused,” added Dahiya referring to Shariful Islam.

The senior IPS officer also provided clarity on the timeline of events on the day of the attack stating:

"The victim arrived at Lilavati Hospital at 0245 hrs. There is no doubt about the time of his arrival.” We received the information from Lilavati Hospital.”

Dahiya’s statement comes a day after state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the Home Minister, said that confusion should not be created regarding the case.

"In this case, the police are properly conducting an investigation. Police have almost everything related to the case. Police will take this case to its logical conclusion," said the Chief Minister.
