Mumabi: Hours after workers of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena vandalised a hotel in Mumbai's Khar area where Kunal Kamra’s show was shot, the ruling party has filed a formal complaint with the police against the stand-up comedian.
The complaint has been addressed by Rasool N Kanal, the social media in-charge of the Shiv Sena.
The Shiv Sena workers vandalised the hotel after the ‘gaddar’ (traitor) remark against Shinde, the chief leader of Shiv Sena and state Deputy Chief Minister.
Shinde is a former Chief Minister and ex-Leader of Opposition who had taken control of the Shiv Sena from Uddhav Thackeray, the latter now heads the Shiv Sena (UBT).
Kanal has named Kamra, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The Shiv Sena has sought the complaint for their alleged involvement in a “pre-planned criminal conspiracy and a systematic paid campaign to malign the reputation, image, and goodwill” of Shinde.
“The acts committed by Kamra, including making statements that hurt public sentiments, utter obscene words, and make defamatory insinuations and innuendos targeting Shinde, are not only offensive but also unlawful under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 2023. While constructive criticism of public figures is always welcomed, such close, demeaning, and defamatory statements go beyond reasonable limits and constitute cognizable criminal offences. I seek your immediate intervention to investigate and take appropriate legal action against the accused,” Kanal said in the letter.
