The Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted one of the largest India-based drug cartels. As per a report by NDTV, three of the accused involved in the case have foreign degrees.
The kingpin of the cartel, Naveen Chichkar, originally a resident of Navi Mumbai, currently lives in London. Chichkar is said to have studied criminal psychology along with a course in film and television in London, the publication reported.
According to officials, six people have been arrested in this case, of whom three have studied abroad. The police however is yet to nab Chichkar.
The report stated that in two years, Rs 1,128 crore of drugs like cocaine and hybrid strain hydroponic weed were sold in India by the cartel. The drugs were sold throughout India after being brought from the US via cargo shipments. The drugs were received in Mumbai before they were distributed to dealers across India.
NCB officials found out about the cartel in Mumbai on January 1 with the help of technical and human intelligence. H Patel, the Hawala operator was arrested from Navi Mumbai along with H Mane, a trader.
The money they made after selling the drugs was distributed among the cartel members.
While investigating further, the police found out that approximately 80-90 kgs of cocaine and 60 kgs of hybrid strain hydroponic weed was sold in two years, as reported by the publication.
Police have also seized 11.540 kg of high-grade cocaine, 4.9 kg of hybrid strain hydroponic weed, cannabis gummies of 5.5 kg and cash worth Rs 1,60,000, as per the report.
