Mumbai: Close on the heels of the busting of a spy ring in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh amid India-Pakistan tensions, the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the Maharashtra police has arrested a man from Thane who was allegedly in touch with a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO) through social media platforms.

The arrested person, whose identity has not been disclosed, has passed on information about prohibited areas of India, ATS officials said.

“During the investigations, it has come to light that, from November 2024 to March 2025, this person came in contact with a PIO on WhatsApp and passed sensitive information about prohibited areas to the PIO,” ATS officials said.

The accused has been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita and the Official Secrets Act.
