Sai Gorakh Garad (14), Sai Hilal Jadhav (14) and Sai Kedarnath Ugale (13) were missing since 11am on Sunday, the Adgaon police station official said.

"A missing persons complaint was filed. Later, a police team found their clothes near the pit, after which personnel from the fire brigade retrieved their bodies," he said.

Residents of the area protested by blocking the road and sought action against those who had kept the pit uncovered and without attendants.

Builder Vijay Shekhalia and contractor Akash Gaikwad were arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other offences, the official said.
