Mumbai: A day after a 24-year-old tribal woman was forced to deliver her baby alongside a road in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, the Devendra Fadnavis-led MahaYuti government came under fire from the opposition parties.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi founder Prakash Ambedkar slammed the government over the incident.

“As if that ordeal weren’t harrowing enough, what followed was even more disturbing — the newborn’s umbilical cord had to be cut using a stone! This is not just a tragic incident — it's a damning indictment of decades of political failure. The current BJP-led government, despite its grand promises of development, has utterly failed to provide even the most basic healthcare services to the most marginalised,” said Ambedkar.

“Successive governments — whether led by BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress, NCP, or others — have systematically ignored healthcare infrastructure for the marginalised. They’ve built vote banks, not hospitals! What’s left is a crumbling infrastructure that abandons the marginalised when they need it most. This is what happens when governments treat public health as a slogan, not a right. The price is paid in blood — and in stones used where sterile tools should be,” he said.

NCP (SP) Women’s wing President Rohini Khadse expressed concern over the incident. “But even after waiting for an hour, no ambulance came or no one came. This woman did not get medical help. The woman was lying on the road. What would have happened to this woman if her grandmother had not come to help her? If her life had been saved, who is responsible for this?,” she said.
