Mumbai: Shiv Sena Member of Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) Dr Manisha Kayande made a serious allegation in the House on Wednesday, claiming that Urban Naxals have infiltrated the holy Ashadhi Wari in Pandharpur and are attempting to mislead the Warkaris.
On Wednesday, Dr Kayande urged the government to take immediate action to preserve the sanctity of the Wari (pilgrimage).
Taking serious note of the issue, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered an inquiry.
Dr Kayande stated that the Pandharpur Wari is currently under way, with lakhs of Warkaris and thousands of dindis (pilgrim groups) participating. However, she alleged that certain Urban Naxal groups have joined the procession.
"Atheist individuals who do not believe in God have entered the Wari. This is a very serious matter. Under the guise of organisations like Samvidhan Dindi, Paryavaran Wari, and Lokayat, these Urban Naxals are performing street plays, delivering speeches, and attempting to influence the thoughts of devotees," said Dr Kayande.
She further pointed out that in the past, there were incidents where pieces of meat were thrown during the Wari.
Even prominent Warkari leader Bandatatya Karadkar had objected to such acts. “This is a grave matter. Ashadhi Ekadashi is just two days away, and the government must act swiftly,” she demanded in the House.
Dr Kayande added that the same Urban Naxals had, during last year’s Lok Sabha elections, spread a "fake narrative" about the Constitution being changed. She informed the Council that the government is set to introduce the Maharashtra Public Security Bill in the upcoming session, specifically aimed at curbing such disruptive elements.
