Mumbai: In the backdrop of the death of Somnath Suryawanshi in jail after the Parbhani violence, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) founder Prakash Ambedkar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and requested him to undertake a survey to list the victims of police brutality and provide an adequate compensation.
According to him, Fadnavis has agreed to the demand.
Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, demanded that one family member of Suryawanshi should be given a job while the family should be given an enhanced compensation of Rs 1 crore.
Ambedkar also urged Fadnavis to direct the Maharashtra Police to monitor and thwart any attempt to instigate any form of violence and misinformation against the ideologue of Phule-Shahu-Ambedkar ahead of the anniversary celebrations Battle of Koregaon-Bhima on 1 January.
He also demanded to scrap the DBT of Adivasi students and restore the previous system.
The VBA head has also urged the CM to file FIR against the police officers who allegedly brutalised Suryawanshi and other innocent victims while probing the Parbhani incidents, ordered a 'lathi-charge' without clearance from the seniors, and also demanded compensation for those Dalits whose homes have been demolished, and probe by a retired district or high court judge.
