Mumbai: The Vasai-Virar urban agglomeration - with the Arabian Sea on one side and forests on another - would soon boast of a Ring Road.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set the ball rolling and asked a fresh DPR to be made for a Ring Road in Vasai tehsil in the Palghar district, which neighbours the financial capital of Mumbai.
The Vasai-Virar township nestled on the Western Line is part of the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR).
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Fadnavis, which was attended among others by Palghar MP Dr Hemant Savra, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, Vasai MLA Sneha Dube-Pandit and Nalasopara MLA Rajan Naik.
Officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) and Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate were also present.
Dube-Pandit told the meeting that since a lot of construction has now taken place along the route of the Ring Road proposal previously submitted by the municipal corporation, a re-survey is required for this Ring Road.
“The Chief Minister ordered that a new DPR of the Ring Road should be prepared with the help of MMRDA and the process of acquiring the currently vacant road should be started immediately,” she said.
Dube-Pandit also raised the issue in the meeting that the problem of traffic congestion in Vasai - Virar city has taken a serious form and now there is no space for parking in this city. “The Chief Minister ordered to examine the feasibility of this proposal and table it accordingly,” she said.
Dube-Pandit also raised the issue that the proposals for the 7 essential flyover bridges and roads in Vasai-Virar have been pending with MMRDA for many years.
These planned flyovers include Range Office Chowk, Vasant Nagri and Evershine Gokhivare Road, Manikpur Naka to Bhabola Naka. “The Chief Minister ordered to immediately obtain information about the areas where 100% land has been acquired and provide funds for these projects,” she said.
