The Mumbai terror attack case accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who is being extradited from the US, is likely to be lodged in a high-security ward in Tihar jail when he reaches India. Rana is being brought to India after his last-ditch attempt to evade extradition failed as the US Supreme Court justices rejected his application.

Here is all you need to know about him:

- Tahawwur Hussain Rana was born on January 12, 1961 in Chichawatni in the Punjab Province of Pakistan.

- A physician by profession, Rana served as a captain general duty practitioner in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps.

- He and his wife, who is also a physician, immigrated to Canada in 1997, and obtained Canadian citizenship in June 2001.

- He lived primarily in Chicago and owned several businesses including an immigration service agency, First World Immigration Services, with offices in Chicago, New York and Toronto.

- Rana and David Coleman Headley had attended training camps that Lashkar operated in Pakistan.

Brief timeline of events leading to extradition:

2008 (11 days before the 26/11 attack)

Rana traveled to Mumbai and stayed in the Taj Mahal Hotel, one of the places that was attacked by terrorists during 26/11.

October 18, 2009

Rana and Headley were arrested for allegedly plotting to attack the offices of Jyllands-Posten newspaper, which had published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

May 16, 2011

Trial against Tahawwur Hussain Rana begins in US District Court. 

June 9, 2011

The jury acquitted Rana of conspiracy to provide material support to the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, that killed more than 160 people, including six Americans.

 June 10, 2011

Indian Government expressed disappointment over the acquittal of Tahawwur Hussain Rana by a US Court on the count of conspiracy to provide material support to the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

March-April 2016:
