“We will not allow goonda raj…violence, extortion would not be tolerated…no one would be spared,” Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, told reporters in Mumbai hours after NCP leader and minister Dhananjay Munde’s close aide Walmik Karad surrendered before the State-CID headquarters in Pune.

The case has come as a major challenge for Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is the NCP President.

In a related development, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas and NCP (SP) MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar met Fadnavis and asked that Karad should be booked for murder besides the extortion case.

Fadnavis said that teams have been sent out to multiple locations to track down the three wanted accused in the murder case.

Asked whether Karad would be booked in the murder case, he said that he would get into the specifics at this stage as the police and CID would do the needful based on evidence. “Police will decide based on evidence,” he said.

Fadnavis also refused to get into the politics of the case and the video statement of Karad, he said: “We will not go by who says what in which video…police will act as per the evidence…whosoever wants to share evidence, they should.”
