A police case has been registered against a mother-daughter duo for allegedly blackmailing a 60-year-old man from Mumbai and extorting money from him.
The duo blackmailed him by saying that they would reveal to his wife about his affair with the mother in question, and then went on to extort money and valuables of over Rs 36 lakh from him, multiple media reports said.
As per reports, police sources stated that the man worked in a real estate company and was family friends with the woman who he later entered into a relationship with despite being married.
An Indian Express report citing the police complaint said that the man, at knife-point, was robbed of Rs 14,500 by a friend of the daughter while he was being dropped at his house on August 23.
“The trio between August and December extorted money from the elderly person by threatening to tell his wife about his illicit relationship. By blackmailing and threatening to kill him, they extorted Rs 30.88 lakh in cash, Rs 3.98 lakh via UPI, and an iPhone Pro Max worth Rs 1.88 lakh,” the publication quoted from the police complaint.
The man kept giving in to their demands, but when on December 10 they demanded a sum of Rs 1.40 crore from him, he decided to approach the police.
IE said that the daughter’s friend has been arrested by the Kandivali police and search is on for the duo. A case has been registered against the three under sections 309(4), 308(2), 308(3), and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
