Mumbai: After 288 nagar parishads and nagar panchayats and 29 municipal corporations, 12 zilla parishad and 125 panchayat samities in Maharashtra will go to polls on February 5, 2026.

Counting of votes will be taken up on February 7, 2026.

As many as 246 nagar parishads and 42 nagar panchayats went to polls in two phases on December 2 and 20, 2025, followed by counting the next day.

The 29 municipal corporations would go to polls on January 15, 2026 ,followed by counting the next day.

The schedule of elections to the zilla parishads and panchayat samitis were announced by the State Election Commission after the Supreme Court extended the January 31, 2026, timeline for completing the poll process for local body elections by two weeks.

The model code of conduct has come to force.

State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said that the polling involves 25,482 polling stations.

The nomination papers will be accepted between January 16 to 18, scrutiny will take place on January 19.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 21.

Symbols will be allotted on January 22, and the final list of candidates will be published the same day.

The voter list prepared by the Election Commission of India as on July 1, 2025, will be used for these elections.

“Voter lists have been bifurcated for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti constituencies as per rules, and names cannot be added or deleted at this stage,” said Waghmare, adding Electronic Voting Machines, including ballot units and control units, will be used in large numbers to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.

Expenditure limits for candidates have also been specified separately for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti constituencies, based on the size of the electoral divisions.

The SEC said that there are 2.09 crore voters, of which male voters are 1.07 crore and female 1.02 crore and others comprise 473.

There are 731 members to be elected in these 12 zilla parishads. In 125 panchayat samitis there are 1,462 members to be elected.

The 12 zilla parishads, which are well within the 50% quota limit, include Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur (Western Maharashtra), Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Konkan), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur (Marathwada).

The 125 panchayat samitis, which will go for the polls, fall under these 12 zilla parishads.
