With hailstorm damaging standing crops in several parts of the state, a mad scramble is on among political parties to cash in on the misery of the people by demanding immediate relief to the affected people so as to earn a goodwill.

While Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone to the town charging the state government with delayed response, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan also came out with a statement that experts from Delhi will be touring the affected parts to assess the damage Thursday onwards.

Chavan also stated that he would be touring Marathwada region which is reportedly affected as badly as the Vidarbha on Tuesday. Apart from touring the affected parts, the chief minister said discussions were being held with the Election Commission with regard to the compensation to be paid to farmers.
