Under fire from various quarters over his comments on legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has offered to resign, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut said on Monday.

However, the Raj Bhavan has denied any such move by the Governor.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi partners - Sharad Pawar-led NCP, Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray-group of Shiv Sena - has been at loggerheads with Koshyari ever since he assumed the charge of the gubernatorial post.

Koshyari (80) took over as 22nd Governor of Maharashtra on September 9, 2019.

A widely-experienced politician who started his poltical career with RSS and later became the BJP Vice President, had served several important posts including being Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition. He was among the rare politicians, who had been an MLA, MLC, Lok Sabha member and Rajya Sabha member.

“The honourable Governor has offered to resign…great,” Shiv Sena chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, adding that the indications of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) to call for a Maharashtra-bandh seems to be yielding results. “Our fight against enemies of Maharashtra would continue,” he said.

Baramati MP and senior NCP leader Supriya Sule said: “What is the purpose of offering to resign…he should send his resignation to the President.”

When Raj Bhavan was contacted, an official said: "There is no truth in the news."
