For the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, Maharashtra’s 24-hour infections crossed the 30,000-mark on Sunday.
India’s worst-affected state of Maharashtra reported 30,535 new cases and 99 deaths taking the progressive total to 24,79,682 and 53,399, respectively.
Similarly, Mumbai and the larger Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) recorded new highs of 3,779 and 6,970, respectively.
The active cases in the state has crossed the 2-lakh mark – and reached 2,10,120.
However, only less than 10 per cent are in hospitals as the majority of them are asymptomatic and mild-symptomatic.
The state’s case fatality rate is 2.15 per cent.
During the day, 11,314 patients were discharged taking the total number of treated patients to 22,14,867.
Around 9.69 lakh people – active patients and high-risk contacts are in home quarantine, while 9,601 people are in institutional quarantine.
In Mumbai, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched Rapid Antigen Tests in public places like railway stations, bus depots, malls and marketplaces.
The overall growth rate of cases from March 14-20 was 0.63 per cent and the doubling rate was 106 days, according to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation.
Mumbai now has 40 containment zones in slums and chawls, while 316 buildings have been sealed.
