New Delhi: Speak in a language you are more comfortable with but make your points strongly. This was Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s advice to Congress MPs in the Lower House.
Sources said Rahul told them there would be stricter monitoring of their attendance during the second leg of the Budget Session starting March 10. He said the first leg of the session was a short one, and the leadership was lenient in that count.
The comments were made during a meeting of Congress MPs in Lok Sabha where senior Congress MPs like K C Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Gaurav Gogoi and Kodikkunnil Suresh attended.
Sources said Rahul told them that many of them would get a chance to speak as noticed during the first leg. He said 27 MPs participated in the debates on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address and general discussion on Budget.
He specially mentioned the speeches made by Bimal Akoijam, Varun Choudhury, Ujjwal Raman Singh and Manish Tewari and said that MPs should be prepared to make speeches in the second leg of the session.
Sources said Rahul also told them there was no necessity that MPs speak either in English or Hindi. MPs could speak in a language of their comfort, he added.
In the Winter Session, sources said Rahul had instructed the party’s Parliamentary managers to issue show cause notices to MPs who had skipped the second day of debate on the Constitution.
