The investigators said that the deceased, 39-year-old Ram Dayal Verma from Madhya Pradesh, was in debt due to betting in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

“Verma was depressed after apparently losing crores of rupees in cricket betting,” said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal. He was into manufacturing and selling utensils in Shivpuri district.

At 7 am on Thursday, Verma was found hanging from a tree in a parking lot at Vijay Chowk. According to the police, some security personnel had spotted the body.  The police were informed and a search of the area led to the recovery of the bag which contained the suicide note.
