In what appears to be a case of security breach, a lawyer entered the high-security Nagpur central prison and met death row convict Yakub Memon, with necessary documents.

The matter was raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Counci, on Wednesday, by NCP legislator Kiran Pawaskar.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had rejected the curative petition of Memon – and he is likely to be hanged on July 30.

However, Subhail Farook, who claims to be his lawyer, met him on Tuesday evenig. It has come to light that the documentation shown was not proper.

“There is substantial information that a person called Shubail Farook on Tuesday met Yakub Memon at the jail without having valid documents. He had an identity card issued by the Delhi Bar  Council which had expired in January 2013. How can somebody just be allowed to go inside the high-security prison without valid documents?” Pawaskar asked.

It is to worth mentioning here that Nagpur is the hometown of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio and the prison here had been in news when some criminals made an escape recently. However, they were arrested after a fortnight.

Pawaskar sought a reply from the government on this issue – and pointed out that this should not be taken lightly.
