New Delhi: Eight new Bills, a resolution to extend the President's Rule in Manipur and passing of the Income Tax Bill presently being examined by a Select Committee are among the tentative businesses proposed by the Narendra Modi government for the upcoming Monsoon of Parliament starting July 21.
The inclusion of the intent to bring a resolution to extend the President's Rule in Manipur indicates that the government has no immediate plans to revoke the measure imposed in the north-eastern state on February 13. As per the Constitution, a proclamation of the President's Rule needs to get a Parliament approval for every six months and the present deadline ends on August 13.
Besides, the Appropriation Bill relating to Demands for Grants (Manipur) for 2025-26 will be brought before the Parliament.
The government also plans to bring the Income Tax Bill, 2025 amid expectation that the Select Committee would submit its report during the Monsoon Session. The Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on February 13 and referred to a Select Committee for examination.
In the tentative list, the much-speculated Bills on changes in civil nuclear liability regime does not find a mention. However, the government can bring a Bill during the Session even if it is not in the tentative list.
The new Bills include The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025, The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2025, The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill 2025 and The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025.
The National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025 are also proposed to be passed in the Session, which will end on August 21.
A total of 16 Bills are listed to be passed during the Session, which includes three each Bills pending in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Of this, three have been passed by Lok Sabha and pending in Rajya Sabha, while three are introduced in Lok Sabha and pending there.
The Bills include The Merchant Shipping Bill 2024, The Indian Ports Bill 2025, The Coastal Shipping Bill 2025 and The Bills of Lading Bill 2025.
The Session is also expected to see a discussion on Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent developments and an attempt to impeach Justice Yashwant Varma among other things.
