Guwahati: The death toll due to flood in conflict-torn Manipur increased to four with three fresh deaths reported in the past 24-hours.

An official flood bulletin said over 1.65 lakh people remained still affected due to the flood, mainly in Imphal East and Imphal West on Friday.

It said 82 relief camps were still open for those displaced by the flood that hit the state and rest of the Nortehast on May 31.

The deluge damaged over 35,400 houses, said the bulletin.

Assam situation

In neighbouring Assam, the overall flood situation showed signs of improvement on Friday but over 4.43 lakh people still remained affected in 1, 296 villages in 18 districts. The number of affected people was over 5.6 lakh on Thursday.

Assam, however, did not report any fresh death in the past 24-hours. A total of 21 people have died due to flood and landslides so far since May 31. More than 40,000 people were still taking shelter in relief camps.

The daily flood bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Friday evening said at least seven rivers including the Brahmaputra and the Barak were still flowing above danger levels.

The Northeast has reported 52 deaths due to flood and landslides since May 31.
