"Brahmastra Missile will surely hit one of the double engine. Congress party set to move no-confidence motion anytime soon," Keisham Meghachandra Singh, president of Manipur unit of Congress posted on X on Friday.

Singh, however, did not divulge details. He could not be contacted for further details on how the party would move the no confidence with just five MLAs in the house of 60.

Sources in the Congress, however, said the party is in talks with National People's Party (NPP), a party with six MLAs, which withdrew support from Biren Singh-led government in November. NPP chief and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma also sought replacement of Biren Singh alleging that the CM failed to control the Meitei-Kuki conflict that has roiled Manipur since May 2023.

"A few more MLAs in BJP will skip the Assembly session to support the no-confidence motion," claimed the source.

The announcement came two days after Biren and a few other ministers and BJP MLAs rushed to New Delhi and held a meeting with the party's in-charge of Manipur, Sambit Patra. They were likely to meet Amit Shah but sources within BJP said the Home Minister refused to meet them. Patra, according to sources, told the CM and the BJP MLAs to "stay united" till the Assembly session staring on February 10.

BJP has 32 MLAs and enjoys the support of five Naga Poeple's Front legislators and six JD (U) MLAs. But 10 Kuki MLAs, including seven belonging to BJP, has skipped the Assembly session in the Meitei-dominated Imphal and is likely to do so in the next session too. BJP's worry increased after several MLAs skipped a meeting called by Biren Singh in November.
