The ritual called ‘made snana’ has lower caste people being asked to roll over plantain leaves containing food scraps. “It is inhuman, humiliating and derogatory and therefore it should be banned immediately by the Karnataka government,” Mayawati said.

“It is unbelievable that such rituals are still continuing in the 21st century. It shows that the people with casteist mindset do not bother about the dignity of the scheduled caste people,” the BSP chief said.

The ‘made snana’ ritual was observed at a temple in Karnataka on Friday. It is believed that the ritual cures ailments.
