Microbiologist stabbed to death in brazen act of road rage

A microbiologist was stabbed to death last evening in Kalyan near Mumbai in a brazen act of road rage, official sources said today.

Mayur Mehta (53) was on his way back home from his pathological laboratory to celebrate his wedding anniversary, when his two-wheeler was overtaken by a motorcycle near the Rambagh area of Kalyan, Thane police commissionerate control room sources said.

Three men on the motorbike which overtook him, stopped him and an argument ensued in the middle of the crowded street, after which they stabbed him and fled, sources said.

Nobody came to help as Mehta was bleeding on the road for ten minutes. Later, a woman tried to stop the bleeding with her dupatta and rushed Mehta to a nearby hospital, which declared him dead on arrival.

Mehta is survived by his wife and daughter who is studying chartered accountantancy.
No arrests have been made so far, the police said.
