Aizawl: A Myanmar national has been arrested after banned Methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 6.67 crore were seized from his possession in east Mizoram's Champhai district, Assam Rifles said in a statement on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the paramilitary force, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police, set up a check post at Zokhawthar village in the district on June 29, and the team, while conducting a thorough search of a suspected individual, recovered 20,200 Methamphetamine tablets weighing 2.22 kg, it said.

The seized tablets from the peddler are valued at over Rs 6.67 crore, it said.

Methamphetamine tablets are a highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system, and these are banned in India.

The accused is a Myanmar national and the recovered Meth tablets were handed over to Mizoram Police at Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement added.
