Addressing a press conference here, Banna Gupta expressed doubt that the much-needed Mango water project would meet its deadline owing to fund crunch.
Of the Rs 17 crore approved for the project, only rupees six crore was released and project was unlikely to meet its deadline.

Gupta blamed the lackadaisical approach of government agencies for the delay in completing the project.

He also pulled up municipal providers in and around the Steel City including Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Mango Notified Area Committee and Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company Limited (Jusco), which was a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel, for their poor municipal services.

About the move of the East Singhbhum district administration to evict residents set up their dwellings over encroached land at Marine drive on the ring road, Gupta said he would not allow anyone to be evicted forcibly on the pretext of encroachment and development.

"We are not opposed to development but eviction should be carried out after a proper rehabilitation and resettlement of the residents", he said.
