Prime Minister Narendra Modi's lookalike Abhinandan Pathak could join the Congress and campaign for it in the 2019 general elections.

Pathak had hit the headlines during the last Lok Sabha polls and had campaigned for the BJP.

A resident of Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, about 500 kilometre from Lucknow, Pathak met state Congress leaders in Lucknow a few days back and had reportedly expressed his desire to campaign for the party.

Congress sources in Lucknow confirmed the meeting and said that Pathak might join the party after getting the approval of the party's high command.

Pathak said that he had hoped that BJP would fulfil its commitment made to the people in the 2014 polls but, it did not.

''BJP has let the people down... It has not fulfilled its promises,'' he added.

Interestingly Pathak was a still a big fan of Modi.

''Modiji is a nice man... He wants to take the country on the path of progress... India's image in the world has improved under the Modi regime,'' he remarked.

Pathak, however, had complaints against the BJP and the members of the Modi cabinet.

''The NDA government as a whole has failed to deliver... Achhe Din (good days) have not arrived,'' he said.

He said that he had been subjected to abuse and humiliated by the saffron party workers after his decision to switch loyalty.

Pathak had earlier unsuccessfully contested the state Assembly polls twice and also served as a corporator from Saharanpur.
