Indian media reports said on Thursday that Indian and the US officials are working to set up a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Obama in September.

The Hindustan Times said the US team wants the meeting on September 30, while the Indian side wants to advance it to September 26 around the time Modi will be in New York to address the UN General Assembly.

The Times of India suggested the meeting will not be a brief encounter on the sidelines of the UNGA but a full fledged bilateral summit in Washington.

After being denied the US visa for years, there was an apprehension on how PM Modi will manage the crucial relationship with the US. His readiness to not let the acrimonious past come in the way of the future ties should let speculations to rest.
